New Web Site

I finally took the time to put together a real web site for the display. It's a fairly simple site, threw it together in a day. However, it gets the job done.

Come check it out:

Lights ON!

Wow, this year really went by fast! I haven't had much time to update this blog, but the lights went on to rave reviews last night.

I'm going to try to get video ASAP. Just need a few good nights.

LOR Animations

I've decided on the songs for my show. I've got most of them at least started. I created a site where I'm posting them. http://www.rickmosher.com/LORAnimations/index.htm

So far I've got the Welcome Sequence, Amy Grant's Mister Santa and South Park's O Holy Night completed. Will post more as I get them done.

Hopefully I'll get all of the sequences on video when the real show is set up at the end of the year and post them also.

Voice Over Arrived

WOW! Kevin (The Demented Elf) Dunn sent the mp3 of my voice over today. 1 day turn around. Now that's service! It sounds wonderful. Totally professional. I'm adding music and replacing my lame version in the LOR sequence I created.

My friend Dan from Co Spgs emailed me this morning with news of a LOR blowout sale they're having in the next few weeks. Keeping my eyes peeled for good prices on the controllers I want to buy.

New Projects

I found a Scrolling LED message sign on eBay for $50.00. I've seen projects around the internet that describe building a "North Pole" out of painted PVC pipe. It sort of turns out looking like a red and green barber's pole. I've decided that I'm going to build something similar to mount my message sign on. Since I'm dedicating my display to Operation Christmas Child I'm including a flyer box on the pole also with brochures that have more info about the project.

I tried to do a voice over that welcomes folks and lays out a bit of "Christmas Light Viewing Etiquette" but it didn't sound very professional. So, I decided to hire it done. I found that a lot of folks on PlanetChristmas.com and the LOR forums recommend The Demented Elf for voice overs. I emailed him with my script (which was a modified version of Richard Holdman's script) and his prices are VERY reasonable. I'm excited to hear what he does.

I received a notice that the mega tree stars are back in stock at ChristmasLightShow.com so I ordered one. They include an instructional video for making the topper for a mega tree. It looks fairly simple so I may start on that within the week.

1st Project Complete.

I've completed my 1st project. The Merry Christmas sign is done:

Each letter will be on a separate LOR channel so they can all be controlled independantly.
Now I'm excited for the LOR sale so I can get my controllers and test the sign.

In Full Swing

Most of my materials have arrived (except Light-O-Rama controllers, which I'll wait for the Spring sale before I order). I've been spending every spare moment working on the Merry Christmas sign. It's turning out OK. I think I'm going to like it. It's pretty time consuming though, making it up as I go... but learning in the process.

I've completed M E R on the Merry and a C on Christmas. I'm using the Planet Christmas rope light method to get power to my rope lights. It's easier than I thought it would be.

I haven't come up with a final song list yet but I'm thinking I'll probably edit the ones I choose down to be about 2 minutes long each. While watching all the vids of people's light shows I find myself getting a little bored if they're much longer than 2 minutes.

I know it's early... and I may change it as the year progresses but I recorded a Voice-Over track with a welcome message and some standard etiquette suggestions (park with your headlights off, keep your radio at a reasonable volume, don't block the neighbor's driveway, etc.) I've decided to dedicate the display to Operation Christmas Child and put out a box of flyers with info on how to get involved.

That's about it... I've taken the day off work today to take a break and go skiing. I haven't been in quite a long time but we've found cheap tickets for Tuesday and we're headed to the slopes.
